Silence Is Golden.....

I was going to call this post Shut the #$%@ Up! But cooler heads prevailed.  What am I being so harsh about? Hiking with your music on without head phones.  There are so few places to enjoy the great out doors in Southern California and a surprising amount of people think this is a great place for them to share THEIR favorite playlist.  I say NO!  Your music may be YOUR inspiration, but for the majority of us out on the trails, Silence is Golden.  I am not saying you can't listen to your favorite jam while you are hiking, walking, or running on the trails.  I am saying I (and most of the people sharing these resources) do not want to hear it.  Take that opportunity to hear your breath as you walk up the hill.  Maybe you can hear the cry of the hawk circling above, or the deer rustling through the brush. What a great time to contemplate the wonderful world of nature.  What the heck does this mean?  Well you can either meditate on it or find a friend to enjoy a cup of coffee (see previous post) or a wonderfully awesome delicious cup of tea and discuss.  Be Well.

Total Eclipse

PictureSolar Eclipse - May 2012
Well not exactly a total eclipse at this point, but it still looks pretty cool.  What does this have to do with anything?  Not much really but it does remind me of some thing I found absolutely hilarious, and at is a duet of Total Eclipse of the Heart. What does this mean?  Find a friend and have a cup of coffee (see previous post) or tea and discuss.  Was this funny? Bad? or so bad it was funny?
We all have our own sense of humor and I believe we all need a good laugh.  Be Well.

Especially when it comes to travelling and the TSA! Now available in a convenient 2 ounce bottle, Sage Body Oil.  All the power of Sage, in bottle that is a size that the TSA can handle! (Only my second advertisement blog, not bad I think) This awesome oil is great for the boosting the immunity and great for the skin! Mixing the power of Sage (Salvia Apiana - that is the sage you've seen in the store that folks use for smudging and ceremonies) and Olive Oil (used for hundreds of years by folks in the Mediterranean for skin protection) to make one fabulous Body Oil. Be the first on your block to be part of the sensation that is sweeping the nation! So, yes, Size Does Matter.

Food For Thought

Eating well does not have to be boring. It just takes a little creativity and a little time (and in this case someone else making it for me :) ) to make eating healthy delicious! This Home Made Father's Day French Toast has bananas, black berries, blue berries, pumpkin seeds, home made whipped cream, and organic maple syrup.  And yes it was fabulous!   This would go well with a hot cup of coffee (see previous posts) or a great cup of tea.
Take a little time for yourself and enjoy!  Be Well.

Orange you glad.....

Orange you glad I didn't say banana? Ha, Ha, Hee, Hee, LOL and all that other stuff.  Oranges are an excellent winter Pick Me Up. Or you can use an Orange related Pick Up line like "Hey that is a good looking Navel you've got there". Oranges brighten the mood with their warm color and enliven the palate with their sweet taste. Consider it food therapy in every bite.  They are filled with vitamin C and deliciousness! So, go out and get an Orange by yourself or with a friend. Take a bite and enjoy!

Be well.

Sugar, Fat, Caffeine & Alcohol

1/8/2014

Yes, I am talking about the four basic food groups!  This trend started after I completed my first half-marathon.  My training partner said she wanted to make breakfast after the race with all the four basic food groups to which I responded "Cool, Sugar, Fat, Caffeine, & Alcohol!" (we had bacon, eggs, pancakes, coffee, and tequila sunrises).  Many years later during the introductions in my nutrition class, which quickly turned into a dietary confessional (dear father forgive me for I have eaten a doughnut last year during a moment of weakness....).  People were claiming that they wished they would eat less of this and more of that... wanting to be vegetarian, vegan, raw, detoxed, or the ubiquitous "eat more healthy".  I was tired of hearing people whine about the burden of having abundance of food choices by the time my turn came.  When it was my turn, I said "I am an omnivore, happy to be on top of the food chain! My four basic food groups are (you guessed it) Sugar, Fat, Caffeine & Alcohol!" I received a round of applause for that.  We live one of the most abundant times on this planet.  I am grateful for all the choices I have. When a patient asks for advice on diet, I say eat as much real food as you can.  The simpler the better.  The least processed the better. The more local the better.  Organic is better! Enjoy your food, enjoy your life!  Eat well 90% and the other 10%..... Enjoy guilt free then get back to what is best for you!..... Food is not meant to be Dogmatic, it is meant to nourish, replenish and to be enjoyed!  Here is a link to a "food" that contains all 4 of the basics....

A great Tee (Tea) Time is a great time of day!

My semi-decade round of golf with my brothers is one of the great pleasures in life. A great cup of tea is also one of my greatest pleasures.  I can't always get a round in with my brothers but I can always get a rounded tea spoon of my favorite teas from Lady of the Lotus Botanicals! Okay, that was a stretch. I love my coffee but nothing beats a great cup of tea.  My favorites are Sage Advice or Heart's Content.  By clicking on any of the pictures of tea below, you will be transported to the page that describes the wonderful organic blends available!  Whether you are Teeing Up or taking time to sip some Tea, remember to relax, breathe and enjoy the moment!
